Great, atmospheric guest house. Karloff the manager was very informative and attentive to our needs. The staff were all happy and friendly. Superb rooms and fascilities. Even hot water bottles in the bed when it was chilly - bliss, and a lovely log fire in the sitting room.

The free parking was on site, exceptional service. The staff were personable and the breakfast was very tasty and lovely with the biggest croissants I have ever seen.

The breakfast on the terrace was good with plenty of options to choose from.
The air conditioning issue in our room took over an hour to resolve, frustrating. When we checked in, it wasn't cooling properly, and there seemed to be a lack of urgency from the staff to fix it initially. The Wi-Fi connection was weaker than expected.

Really nice guesthouse right in the centre of Franschoek, all the best restaurants and bars are within walking distance - some of the farms which are bit further away so you will need to drive. Jarno & Aukje are warm and made us feel really welcomed, they even gave us a map of the valley with a suggested itinerary of the wine farms, restaurants and art galleries to visit! The rooms are spacious and the king size bed is very comfortable. The breakfast is delicious, not just standard eggs and bacon, it's a full on spread of pastries, fruit, bread, cheese and cold meats. (Definitely will fuel you for a day of wine tasting!) We will be back soon!

The Avondrood has been very well rated in the past - we know because our good friends who had lived in South Africa for many years, rated it very highly and recommended it to us. When we learned, after booking, that the owners had changed we were a llittle apprehensiive. Was it possible, we wondered, that the new proprietors could maintain the wonderful standard that our friends had talked about in such glowing terms? In the event, we should not have worried. The new owners, Jarno & Aukje, have clearly set themselves such high standards that they were not satisfied to merely maintain the level - they were going to take it further, much further! You sense this in all that they do - nothing is too much for them; the quality of the breakfasts matches that of the beautifully maintained, secluded garden, with it's delightful pool - and jacuzzii - a real treat after alll the hard work of sightseeing and wine-tasting! In the rooms, nothing has been overlooked - comfort and convenience combine with imaginative design. And although, when relaxing by the pool, you feel isolated and remote from the bustle of the village, when the time comes to eat, the Avondrood is just a few minutes strolll from the excellent restaurants in the centre of Franschhoek. In our travels, we have rarely experienced such a high degree of professionalism and genuine desire to please the customer as we found in this delightful guest house. Bravo! Jarno and Aukje - we'll be back!
